A poem written towards the end of training institute aptly describes this journey for me.
Teaching is not about education,
It’s about life.
It involves deep observation,
A little struggle and strife.
We worry about what a child will become tomorrow,
Yet we forget that he is already someone today.
His life may be filled with hardship and sorrow,
However, of hope there is always a ray.
You don’t have to weather the storm,
Don’t treat it like an ache or pain.
We don’t follow the conventional norm,
Instead, we just dance in the rain.
I had students who were brilliant,
Others trying hard to get there.
They taught me how to be resilient,
How to always love and care.
In these four weeks I’ve learnt immensely,
The children have taught me lessons galore.
We’ve been trained and nurtured intensely,
To TFI I’ll be indebted forever more.
